Ghost Town Visit

Visit the Plaatjieskraal Ghost Town next to the sea.

Buried between the dunes, repossessed by nature.

Outside of Buffeljagsbaai, here you'll find an abandoned holiday resort built in the 80's. The resort was built by the district municipality for locals living in Elim & Bredasdorp area.

23 little houses, equipped with braai facilities, a reception building and 2 workers houses, all just a stone's throw away from the sea.

Over time the moving sand dunes came to take back what used to be theirs. The fight against these powerful natural forces were lost as the buildings were slowly buried by the sand.

Best time for surfing in Pearly Beach, for clean waves & ridable swell with light winds are end of May through to winter. This is a quiet time of the year in Pearly Beach, so you'll likely be paddling out alone. Water will be cold so be sure to bring a full wetsuit.
